2025 marks the first year of the Dharma Torch Project being online. This project plans, over a period of 15 years, to translate into English those Sūtra portions in the Taishō Tripiṭaka that have not yet been translated by others, using a workflow of AI-assisted translation combined with sentence-by-sentence human review. As of the last day of 2025, the project has translated and organized a total of 945,547 Chinese characters. Monthly progress is shown in the accompanying chart.
According to our estimates, after excluding prior translations and Chinese scriptures that were themselves with multiple versions, the total remaining workload of the Dharma Torch Project is approximately 14.14 million Chinese characters. Based on this estimate, in 2025 we completed 6.68% of the total workload, essentially maintaining the goal of completing all work within 15 years. Among these efforts, T0310 The Great Jewel Heap has already been translated or organized through volume 54 and can be released after final review. At this pace, we should be able to complete the English translation of the entire 120-volume The Great Jewel heap in 2026.
